The basis for the establishment of the endowment was the donation by one of the founders of the Special Endowment Fund Management for the Development of the State Hermitage Museum non-profit organisation, V.O. Potanin to the amount of US$ 5,000,000 (five million). This means that the State Hermitage Museum’s endowment is the largest out of similar funds in the cultural sphere in Russia. But in order for the State Hermitage Museum to be really able to depend on its endowment to implement important projects more funding is necessary.
