Kudrin Alexei Leonidovich

Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science, Dr. of Economics, Professor

Graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Leningrad State University. In December 1985 he began full time study towards a PhD at the Institute of Economics at the USSR Academy of Sciences. Having defended his dissertation he began academic work at the Institute of Social-Economic Problems at the USSR Academy of Sciences. From October 1990 he worked as the deputy chairman of the Committee on Economic Reform for the Executive Committee of the Leningrad Soviet. After the dissolution of the Committee on Economic Reform he moved to the Management Committee for the Leningrad Free Enterprise Zone. From November 1991 to 1992 he was the deputy chairman of the Committee for Economic Development. From August 1992 to 1993 he was the chairman of the Financial Department for the Mayor of St. Petersburg (which was later renamed the Financial Committee). From 1993 to June 1996 he was deputy, first deputy to the mayor, a member of the City Government, chairman of the Committee for Economics and Finances for the Mayor of St. Petersburg.

He is the author of more than 30 scientific works in the field of economics and finances. Delivered courses at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the State University for the Ministry of Finance for the Russian Federation; he is professor emeritus at the Faculty of Economics at St. Petersburg State University, professor emeritus at Buryat State University, professor emeritus at Dagestan State University, chief scientific advisor at the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy.

From August 1996 by decrees of the President of the Russian Federation he was appointed to various directorships in the Government of the Russian Federation: Deputy Cirector for the Administration of the President, Head of the Government Accountability Office of the President of the Russian Federation, First Deputy to the Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the National Banking Council, Chairman of the Board for Financial Markets attached to the Office of the President of the Russian Federation. For his large contribution to the governments financial policies and many years of conscientious work he has been awarded with the Order for Services to the Fatherland, 4th Degree by decree No. 1199 of the President of the Russian Federation from 12 October 2005, and awarded with the Order for Services to the Fatherland, 3rd Degree by decree No. 1185 of the President of the Russian Federation from 30 September 2010. By Order ¹ 1669-P of the Government of the Russian Federation from 5 October 2010 he was awarded the Stolypin Medal, 1st Degree for active participation in developing the main areas of social and economic growth in the Russian Federation.

Based on the results of questionnaires of influential overseas publications he has been multiply named the best Minister of Finance:
